Town of Lenox - Important Notice from the DPW

Government and Politics

May 17, 2022

From: Town of Lenox

The Town of Lenox along with its engineering consultant, DPC Engineering, LLC, will be performing Smoke Testing as part of a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) starting on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. Smoke Testing involves blowing non-toxic smoke into sanitary sewer mains to determine any areas where storm and surface water may be entering the sewer system. The smoke should not enter your home if your house has proper plumbing, ventilation, and water traps containing water. Please run water in fixtures that are not used regularly to fill the traps.

If smoke does enter your house, please report it to the crew on site or call 860-268-0281. The smoke is a non-toxic, odorless substance that is clean and harmless to humans, pets, food and material goods, but it may be irritating to the nasal passage. Do not be alarmed and do not call the Police or the Fire Department unless you are sure there is a true emergency.

The Smoke:

-Is NON-Toxic

-Is White/Gray in color

-Leaves no residue

-Does not pose a fire hazard

The testing will be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will not interrupt sanitary sewer service. The Town of Lenox Fire Department, and Police Department will be notified of where the testing is taking place each day, and a police detail will accompany when necessary. Should smoke enter your home or business during testing, open windows to allow ventilation and note the location of the smoke. The smoke will clear within a few minutes and please notify a member of the testing crew.

If you have any questions of concerns, please do not hesitate to contact TJ Jedynak of DPC Engineering, LLC at 860-268-0281.

Thank You,
