Keep your pets safe this Independence Day

Protect your pets ahead of the Independence Day fireworks by making sure they are microchipped and your contact information is up to date.

Make sure you register the microchip for your pet and update the information often. Animal Services says this will make it easier to reunite you with your pet should your animal run away during the fireworks.

“If your dogs are going outside for any reason, even a potty break, make sure they have a collar on. Even a split second, going out to use the restroom and a firework hits, they can be gone,” said Community and Neighborhood Services Director Lisa Shafer.

The collar should include a license tag or a tag with the owner’s contact information.

“Protect your dogs [and] stay with them if you’re in the house. Maybe raise the noise a little bit, put some music on or the TV, and maybe just sit with them,” said Shafer.
