After meeting with Town departments, members of local business organizations, and the pyrotechnics vendor to discuss the weather forecast for both Saturday and Sunday this weekend, the First Light Fireworks display in Provincetown will still take place on Saturday, December 31.

The First Light Fireworks Celebration over the harbor – originally scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. - will now launch from MacMillan Pier at dusk on Saturday, December 31, and the best views for the fireworks are on the beach by the pier.

With rain and fog forecast for Saturday late afternoon and evening, those interested in viewing the fireworks are encouraged to arrive by 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

While postponing the fireworks until Sunday was discussed, winds are predicted to increase throughout the day and may likely be above the 20 mph threshold for launching fireworks by late Sunday afternoon.

As a reminder, a Parking Ban is now in effect on Commercial Street between Johnson Street and Court Street through 2:00 a.m. on Monday, January 2.

Free parking is available for residents and visitors in any of the town’s municipal lots, such as the MacMillan Pier Parking Lot (located in the center of town by Lopes Sq.) and Grace Hall Parking lot (located at Prince St. and Bradford St).

Other events taking place in Provincetown during First Light Weekend include the Light Bright Bike Ride on Saturday, December 31 at 4:30 p.m. and the Polar Bear Plunge into the harbor on Sunday, January 1 at 12:00 p.m.
