Town Of Tewksbury News Level 3 Critical Drought Designation

Government and Politics

From: Town Of Tewksbury

On July 21, 2022, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary placed the Northeast Region of Massachusetts under a Level-3 Critical Drought designation, which includes the Town of Tewksbury. With the new designations, every region in the State is currently experiencing drought conditions. As a result, it is important to recognize the potential stress this has placed on the water system supply, and natural habitats and resources.

At this time, we are asking residents and businesses to voluntarily limit non-essential outdoor water use by utilizing an odd/even approach. With this approach, properties with an odd numbered street address would limit outdoor water use to odd numbered dates of the month, and properties with an even numbered street address would limit use to even numbered dates. In addition, it is recommended that watering be limited to the hours of 5 PM – 9 AM. Please note that this is a voluntary request.

More information on drought status and recommendations can be found on the infographic linked below, on the State’s Drought Management website at https://www.mass.gov/guides/drought-management-in-massachusetts, or by calling the Department of Public Works at 978-640-4440.

Thank you for your consideration.
