Highlights This Week

Warm Up at the COA

Monday, Thursday, February 23, 12:00-1:00

Chicken Noodle Soup or Corn Chowder Warm up at the COA with a yummy bowl of soup, followed by dessert. Cost: $8 Call the COA at 781-786-6280 to register, as we are able to accommodate a few additional folks past last week's deadline!

Yoga Nidra

Thursday, February 23, 2:00-3:00 on Zoom

Calm your central nervous system and heal your body with Yoga Nidra, known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. Our Yoga Nidra facilitator, Keri Straka, will ease us into a state of "twilight sleep", where the rest and digest modes of the body help restore balance and harmony. Yoga Nidra is a meditative, regenerative practice that allows you to both actively and unconsciously relax and destress the body and mind and offers similar benefits as sleep, which helps our wounds to heal, improves memory, boosts the immune system, manages pain and lowers stress. Some studies report it is equivalent to 2-4 hours of deep, restful sleep. Yoga Nidra is typically practiced lying down on a yoga mat but can be practiced seated in a chair. It’s helpful to have a yoga mat and blocks for your practice, as well as a blanket or thick beach towel and a pillow or bolster. Cost: $5. Contact the COA at 781-786-6280 to register.

AARP Income Tax Assistance

Fridays, February 10-April 7 at the COA

Trained AARP volunteers return to the COA to provide free assistance to taxpayers, with a special focus on those over 50 and have low-to moderate income, in preparing their returns. They will assist you with basic tax forms and questions; those with complex tax issues will need to contact a professional tax consultant. Contact the COA at 781-786-6280 to schedule your appointment. After scheduling your appointment, you will receive a list of items to bring with you and be mailed an intake form, which will need to be completed prior to your appointment. The intake form is more important than ever so that your appointment can go as smoothly and quickly as possible. When you arrive for your appointment, you will meet briefly with a tax preparer who will go over the intake form with you. You will then be directed to spend time in a different room or leave if you have a cell phone and are able to return back as soon as your return is completed. If you need assistance completing your form or have questions on obtaining documents, contact COA social workers Joyce McSweeney or Chris Kjellson.
