FREDERICK, MD — On Monday, Congressman David Trone (MD-06) hosted a workshop focused on issues facing the senior community alongside Congressman John Larson (CT-01), Chair of the House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee. Over 300 people and 25 organizations were in attendance at the event hosted at the YMCA of Frederick County.

The workshop featured remarks by Congressmen Trone and Larson, followed by a panel discussion with A. Bernice Hutchinson, Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of Aging, and Richard Fiesta, Executive Director of the Alliance for Retired Americans. The panel of experts discussed Social Security expansion and protection, Medicaid and Medicare, lower prescription drug costs, and fielded questions from the audience. After the panel, attendees were encouraged to walk around to tables and engage with organizations that focus on issues in the senior community.

“Every older American deserves the right to retire with dignity and receive high-quality, affordable health care, which is why strengthening Social Security and Medicare is a top priority of mine in Congress,” said Congressman David Trone. “We’ve made significant progress with the Inflation Reduction Act, which caps out of pocket costs for Medicare Part D — including limiting the price of insulin to $35 —and allows Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. But we can’t stop there. As your Congressman, I am committed to protecting services for and delivering resources to those who need them most.”

This is Trone’s third workshop that focused on seniors, with prior events in Washington and Montgomery Counties.
