As Donald Trump prepares to spend Valentine’s Day in the Palmetto State, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain issued the following statement:

“This Valentine’s Day, I’m urging all South Carolinians to remember just how bad things were with our ex. Broken promises, ignoring us until they needed our votes, refusing to invest in our communities the way we needed – Donald Trump’s record in South Carolina is a classic tale of heartbreak and neglect. We know what four years with him looks like, and it ain’t pretty. That’s why, this year, I’m urging our state to ignore the deadbeat ex’s call.”

Here are some of Trump’s broken promises to South Carolinians:

Hope: Trump said that uninsured people would “be taken care of” under his leadership.

Heartbreak: Trump worked relentlessly to strip health care from millions of Americans and gut protections for those with preexisting conditions. He and his allies attempted to completely repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would cause 242,000 South Carolinians to lose coverage. Now he’s doubled down on his promise to rip away health care coverage.

Hope: Trump says he would prioritize cutting taxes for low and middle-income Americans.

Heartbreak: He gave massive tax breaks to large corporations and the wealthy. In fact, 471,000 South Carolina households either received no tax cut or experienced a tax increase after the law’s passage. Now he’s privately telling allies he’s going to again rig the economy for the largest corporations.

Hope: Trump repeatedly promised South Carolina he would rebuild our infrastructure.

Heartbreak: Instead, he turned infrastructure funding into a running joke and tried to force states and localities to shoulder the massive financial burdens.

South Carolina can’t endure any more broken promises and should dump Trump and the GOP for good.
