(Woodland, CA) – With school ending and summer around the corner, Tuli Mem Park will kick off the fourth year of the pool opening with a free Pool Party. Join the YMCA and WYORCA on Friday, May 27, from 12 to 4 pm for fun, games, healthy snacks, free prizes, and a drawing for free swim day passes.

“We are very excited to open the pool for the summer. The past few years, smoke from wildfires has caused periodic closures, but we are hopeful this year will be different,” said Kevin Yarris, Director of General Services. “The new pool deck shade structures should be a welcomed improvement, and we are working on more shade this season for the picnic area.”

Tuli Mem Park has been in operation for three years and relies on Yolo County for 76% of its funding. It provides a variety of amenities. Residents can enjoy the use of a little league baseball/softball field, multi-use playing field, full outdoor basketball court, two public swimming pools, pedestrian bridge, walking trail, picnic area, and an aquatics building with restrooms, meeting room available for parties, and snack bar.

“My colleagues and I are happy to see the result of hard work and collaboration to develop a community resource for everyone’s enjoyment,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Angel Barajas. “We want to thank our partners, the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, Esparto Unified School District, and the Western Yolo Recreation Center Association.”

In March 2012, Yolo County was awarded a $2.9 million grant from the California State Department of Parks and Recreation for the park. The park opened on March 30, 2019. It sits on 8.67 acres off State Route 16 at the corner of Yolo Avenue and Plainfield Street, across the street from Esparto High School. The park is close to downtown Esparto, adjacent to a public transportation route, and within walking distance of the high school, elementary, and middle schools.
