Welcome to the last February edition of NoHo Strong...and we're all prepping to be waterlogged again! But...we need the rain and it looks like this latest little "soggy" adventure is going to put us over the top as far as this season's water table...yay!! Now, if we can only keep it up for future years and end the current drought...and learn from this so we can better handle what ever "drought situations" happen in the future.

So...be careful during this latest storm, but before you brave the elements, sit down with a nice, hot cup of coffee and read up on the latest in our newsletter!

A Word...or Two...Or Three...

by ds stringer, CEO

SAYING GOODBYE TO "KIND..."

His presidency may not have been the most memorable in some opinions, but his life as a kind, giving, generous man certainly will live on forever.

Late last week it was announced through the media that former President Jimmy Carter, battling many health issues in the latter half of his 98 illustrious years, has entered hospice.

And so...this time is allowing us to reflect on this gentleman, this peanut farmer from Plains, Georgia who rose to fame by winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, by building hundreds of houses with "Habitat For Humanity," by continuing to do hands on construction on these homes while fighting brain cancer, by having wonderful, lasting relationships with all the other former presidents no matter what poitical affiliation they are, by being the oldest president,...and oh yes, by being our 39th President of the United States.

There are many other accomplishments of President Carter's...if shared they could make this commentary go on forever. For now, we will leave it at this...

...No matter your politics, there is no argument that, when the time comes, this peaceful, patriotic, loving man who has dedicated his life to service, deserves all the pomp and circumstance this country can bestow upon him.

On behalf of the Universal City/North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce...

Today, on our last contribution to Black History Month, we are featuring Dr. Daniel Hale Williams...

Who was Dr. Williams?

The first African American cardiologist who performed the first successful open-heart surgery

Founded the first interracial hospital, Provident Hospital and Training School

Created two hospital-based training programs for nursing

Co-founded the National Medical Association

The first African American physician admitted to the American College of Surgeons

Dr. Williams’s work and advocacy for African Americans presence in medicine is honored by educational institutions worldwide

We think our final selection for Black History Month 2023 is a wonderful choice!

In an effort to continue driving equity and inclusion for small businesses on their bond program and bring awareness to the bond program’s many small business resources to new potential vendors, the "Build LACCD is reaching out to get connected with the appropriate contacts in our community and discuss how they can potentially work to benefit everyone by sharing their upcoming contracting and procurement opportunities.
