As the community prepares for the influx of visitors forBoatnik, UScellular is equipped to accommodate the spike in demand for wireless access around Riverside Park. Since many attendees will be relying on their smartphones to stay connected with family and friends, share photos and post social media updates, UScellular has brought in a Cell on Light Truck, also referred to as a COLT, to increase wireless capacity during the festival.

“We want to help ensure that everyone who comes to enjoy Boatnik can use their smartphone like they want to,” said Sarah Pearson, area vice president at UScellular. “The COLT will provide a better wireless network experience for all attendees at the festival.”

Boatnik is an annual festival at Riverside Park in Grants Pass, Oregon over Memorial Day Weekend that’s taken place for more than 60 years. Admission is free, and the festival offers many activities and shows for all ages. Additional activities are available for purchase, including the Davis Shows Carnival, concert and Boatnik Brewfest. All the proceeds from the event are donated throughout the year to children and youth-based organizations in Josephine County.

The COLT provides added network capacity for the increased data usage and to support the large volume of additional phone calls and texts from the attendees while attending the festival. While a COLT is helpful for large events such as this, it can also be deployed to establish instant communication for responders to natural disasters and emergency situations when landline communications are interrupted.
