Phoenix – Former Congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Matt Salmon participated Monday night in the Arizona gubernatorial forum hosted by Yavapai County Republican Women.

During the 90-minute candidate forum, Salmon spoke about his plan to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, expand school choice, fight against corruption in the teachers' union, and defend our Second Amendment rights. He also talked about his plan to represent every region of Arizona, not just Maricopa County.

"One of the things that I've learned having crisscrossed the state countless times is that there's a great, big, beautiful state outside of Maricopa County – and I want to pick people from all over the state. Because what works in Phoenix or Maricopa County doesn't necessarily work in Prescott or Prescott Valley or Chino Valley. We need to have ideas and thoughts from people all over the state so that we get back to the point where it is a state and not just Maricopa County. I'm sick of that."

Matt Salmon On Securing Arizona's Border:

"We're not free from invasion. The cartels have invaded the state. We have a responsibility to stand up and do what the federal government is not doing, and I believe that includes establishing a perimeter of our own ... I also believe that we've got to do everything on our part from the state level to get the cartels declared a Terrorist Organization – because they are."

Matt Salmon On Fighting The Teachers' Union And Expanding School Choice:

"Giving parents the power of the purse and the ability to make the ultimate decision where their kids go to school and having the tax dollars follow the child is the best – because competition always makes a better product ... I believe that the teachers' unions have corrupted the system. They are not standing for the teachers. They are not standing for the students. And they're not standing for the parents. They're standing for these liberal woke ideas, and it's got to change."

Matt Salmon On Defending The Second Amendment:

"I believe that a governor's responsibility is to stand up when the federal government passes unconstitutional laws and say, 'That's not going to apply in Arizona' ... I have an A-plus rating from the NRA from years and years and years of voting ... The biggest thing is that, if the federal government tries to impose upon us something that I believe is unconstitutional, I will fight it with every fiber of my being and stand up for the Constitution."
