Be on the lookout for the many events as Black History Month begins on Wednesday, February 1, 2023

January 27 is International Holocaust Day. On this annual day of commemoration, the UN urges every member state to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides. Many survivors of this atrocity settled in our area. There are a number of events and educational opportunities regarding this time in history as well as a renewed focus on education which has lines of similarities among other groups who are hurt and displaced by rising tides of hate in their own countries. As a child of holocaust survivors, I have deep concern at the rise in antisemitic incidents on college campuses, and other public spaces, and institutions throughout our country and locally in the past four years. Different communities also have their own established dates: In Westchester, Holocaust Remembrance Day is April 18.
