Why is Tim Sheehy Hiding Medical Records Related to Glacier Park Incident?

Government and Politics

Sheehy has refused to release medical records that could provide Montanans the truth and transparency they deserve

Helena, MT – On May 13th, in a new interview with Montana Public Radio, Tim Sheehy confirmed he will not release his hospital medical records from the day court documents show he shot himself in the arm in Glacier National Park, saying “it’s pretty ridiculous” he would need to present them.

However, just one month ago, Sheehy told the Washington Post that he had already “requested” the medical records that would provide answers about his conflicting accounts of his gunshot wound. His refusal to make his records publicly available prevents Montanans from knowing the truth.

On the campaign trail, Sheehy has repeatedly said he had a bullet in his arm from his service in Afghanistan. But records show that Sheehy accidentally shot himself in his arm in Glacier National Park in 2015. According to those records, a park ranger was dispatched to the parking lot after a park visitor reported the gunshot, and then met Sheehy at the hospital where Sheehy explained that the gun fired when it fell out of his vehicle.

Now, Sheehy claims he lied to the ranger about being shot in the Park to cover for a friendly fire incident he says happened in Afghanistan, and resulted in a gunshot wound in his arm. At the time of the reporting, Sheehy told the Washington Post he “did not provide medical records from the 2015 hospital visit, saying he had requested them.”

Why won’t Sheehy release his medical records? What is he trying to hide?
