The Wichita Police Department (WPD) has arrested 26-year-old Daivon Atkinson of Haysville, KS on the charges of aggravated assault, criminal restrain, eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, and driving while suspended stemming from an abduction/ disturbance investigation.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. the Wichita Police Department (WPD) officers responded to the 1200 block of E. Mt. Vernon for a disturbance/abduction call. Upon arrival, officers contacted witnesses who reported seeing two males arguing with a female and forcibly placing the female inside a vehicle and leaving the area.

Officers immediately began checking the area for the vehicle, and with the information provided by one of the witnesses following Atkinson’s vehicle, officers were able to locate the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but Atkinson refused to stop, and a chase ensued.

Officers were able to stop Atkinson’s vehicle after a brief pursuit at the intersection of 10th Street N and Madison. The officers arrested Atkinson after a foot pursuit.

The investigation revealed that Atkinson confronted his girlfriend, the 33-year-old victim over an unknown circumstance. Atkinson told the victim to get in the car, and she refused. Atkins and an acquaintance of the victim grabbed her and placed her inside the vehicle before fleeing the area.

This case would not have been solved so quickly without our officers’ and DIVERT officer’s quick response and help from the witnesses. Atkinson was booked on traffic charges and an aggravated assault charge not related to the initial disturbance.

The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.

Case Number 23C008261.
