Windsor Historical Society News - Put Yourself On The Map this Summer 2023

Clubs and Organizations

April 21, 2023

From: Windsor Historical Society

Help Windsor Historical Society depict the rich diversity of our town by putting yourself on our giant Windsor map! Begun during our centennial celebration in 2021, this summer will be the last chance to add your photo (or your family’s photo) to this nine-foot-tall town map and be a part of this exciting Windsor history project!

“It started as a way for people to connect to their neighborhoods and our great town” says Society director Doug Shipman, “as well as a way to capture in one image those who make up today’s Windsor. It’s so easy - our volunteers take your picture and print it on sticker paper, and you get to place it on the map near where you live or work. It’s been a fun way to ‘people’ our town in an inclusive and very visual way, and we’ve been thrilled with the response. Everyone has really loved being part of it!”

The Society’s giant Windsor map has been available at selected community events since 2021, and over 1,000 Windsor residents have added their images to the map so far. There will be just six more opportunities this spring and summer to be a part of this exciting community project:

April 29 (11AM-2PM) – Fishing for Fun! at Windsor Historical Society

May 20 (10AM-4PM) – Shad Derby Festival on the Green. Look for the Windsor Historical Society tent!

June 10 (10AM-4PM) – CT Open House Day at the Chaffee House, Windsor Historical Society

June 19 (2-5PM) – Juneteenth Celebration on the Green

August 10 (6:30-8:30PM) – Concert on the Green with Nekita Waller

August 19 (1-3PM) – Outdoor Concert with Low Ceilings at Windsor Historical Society

The project, and your opportunity to be a part of the map, ends this summer. Once complete, the map will be digitized, preserved, and included with future exhibits at the Society and other locations in Windsor. We hope you’ll join us to be part of this project! Contact Windsor Historical Society for more information about the project at [email protected], or 860-688-3813.
