Barbie: The History of America's Most Famous Doll

Monday, July 17.  7-8 PM.

No other doll has been played with, analyzed, collected, criticized and loved. In this illustrated lecture, historian Leslie Goddard delves into the history of Barbie and her inventor, the passionately creative and intensely competitive Ruth Handler. Learn what inspired Handler to develop Barbie in 1959, how Barbie helped make Mattel one of the world’s most successful toy companies, and what Barbie’s impact has been on American culture.

Meet Pamela Gardener, on-air meteorologist for NBC10Boston/NECN! We'll be discussing how Pamela got to where she is, what it takes to be a weather person in New England, especially as a Woman in STEM, and the current science around weather forecasting! Bring your questions, this is sure to be a fascinating and enlightening conversation!

VIRTUAL: A Visit with Romance Author (and National Park Service Seasonal Ranger) Carla Kelly

Wednesday, July 19.  7-8 PM.
We'll be talking about Carla's early books as well as her American Historicals and her latest World War II Stories. Carla says her 4th "Unlikely" book will be out and up for discussion, too. Oh, wait, there's more! Carla is also a former seasonal ranger in the National Park Service. We hope to see our romance, history, and nature buffs again!

Book, Schmook! Genre Discussion

Wednesday, July 19.  7-8:30 PM.
Book, Schmook! - We're Doing the Whole Genre!

In this monthly group, rather than reading and discussing a specific book, each time we will focus on the ins and outs of a different literary genre. Share your thoughts and opinions on the genre in general, as well as books & authors within that genre, and recommend titles you’ve enjoyed.

This month’s discussion will focus on: Soap Operas (for Men & Women).

Mandala Mindfulness: A Peer Support Group for Creative Coloring and Connection

Thursdays, July 6-August 10.
10-11 AM.

Many people find the drawing or coloring of a mandala to be meditative. The very nature of drawing or coloring a mandala is therapeutic and symbolic.

Come relax and let your creativity flow.  Meet peers and make connections.

Thursday, July 20.  6:30-7:30 PM.
Join Kat for a functional movement, slow yoga class. This class will include breathwork, meditation, stretching, and functional movement. Encouraged for all levels.

Adult Maker Space Craft Classes: Suncatchers

Friday, July 21.  1-2 PM.
Come join us Friday afternoon for a craft class for Adults.  We'll be making suncatchers!  You'll use wire and beads to make a pretty suncatcher. All supplies will be provided!  Class taught by Rachelle Toth.

Teen Journaling Corner

Tuesday, July 18.  4-5 PM.
Join us in the Maker Space every Tuesday in June for some companionable, cozy journaling time! Each session will feature a different journaling style in a fun, coffee shop inspired atmosphere. We will try out dream journaling, bullet journaling, travel journaling, and journaling for emotional expression. You do not have to check your angst at the door!

Bring your own beloved journal or decorate a brand new one during our first session.

Want to learn to play chess? Know the basics, but want to improve your skills? Already know how to play, but have no one to play with? Stop by Chess Club, Tuesdays at 5:30 in the Makerspace! No registration required and boards provided. All skill-levels welcome!

Teen Clay Time

Friday, July 21.  3-4:30 PM.
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at sculpting miniatures or making your own jewelry? Already have a clay project in mind but need the supplies.

Clay Time is an open art workshop for teens ages 11-19. We will provide air-dry clay in a wide range of colors and sculpting tools. Make anything your heart desires and take it home with you the same day.
