The Opera House recently received a donation from the Teichert Foundation. Foundation Executive Director, Heather Riggs (shown right), presented Tom Burmester, WOH Executive Director (left), with a check for $4,000!

For the Aspiring Young Actor – Acting A to Z!

Our Acting Workshops will be back again this fall giving new and veteran young actors the chance to study and learn the acting craft! Each class becomes more nuanced as the students get older, allowing age-appropriate material to be covered. Each workshop is 55 minutes and is taught by Woodland Opera House veteran actor and drama teacher, Karen Fox. These workshops are recommended to be repeated and are not to be missed if one wants to become a better, stronger performer.

THESE CLASSES ARE HELD AT THE WOODLAND OPERA HOUSE THEATRE – 340 2nd Street.

Ages: Ages 9 Through 12 Years old
When: Tuesdays 5:00 p.m. (Class workshop length is :55 minutes)
Workshop Length: 8 weeks – January 16th through March 5th, 2024
Tuition: $150

Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move well in, bring water, and a notebook.

For the Homeschool Student Looking for Fun in the Dramatic Arts – Spring Creative Play Workshop OR the Spring Mini-Play Performance Workshop

Creative Theatre Play

NEW! The Woodland Opera House is excited to restart our Homeschool Program at the Theatre and Dance Annex! Our Homeschool Creative Play class will be a semester-based program introducing fun, structured theatrical play for students. Incorporating fun theatre games that can assist beginners and experienced students alike with memory/retention, confidence building skills, muscle coordination, taking calculated risks, and public speaking, this type of class can be the spark of what begins an interest in the performing arts or just allows students to come out of their shells.

Taught by Teaching Artist: Karen Fox
Grades: 2nd through 8th grade
When: Tuesdays from 1:00 pm to 1:55 pm.
Where: Theatre and Dance Annex, 520 Court Street, Woodland
Spring Semester Dates: January 9th through March 26th, 2024
Tuition: $70/month

Mini-Play Workshop

NEW! We are excited to restart our Homeschool Program here at the Woodland Opera House Theatre and Dance Annex! This class will be introducing aspiring actors to a script or two that will be auditioned, rehearsed, and put into a mini-production with an in-class showcase on the last day of class. Students will learn how to memorize lines efficiently, how to build characters, and how to block/stage scenes.

Taught by Teaching Artist: Karen Fox
Grades: 2nd through 8th grade
When: Tuesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Spring Semester Dates:  January 9th through March 26th, 2024
Tuition: $110/month (90-minute class)

For the Teen Actor Seeking a Challenge – Teen Acting Workshop!

For Adults Looking to Elevate Their Skillset – Adult Acting & Improvisation Technique!

NEW! Come join us for a new workshop covering the foundations of acting and improvisation technique! Working on the development of characters, scene study, the actor’s physical body, and how improvisation allows it all to come together will be integrated into this class which will be taught by teaching artist, Karen Fox (alum, Second City.) This class is geared towards anyone who would like to build a stronger foundation as an actor. Open to ages 16 years through adult. 8-week session.

Tuition: $200
Ages: 16 through adult
When: January 20th through March 9th, 2024 (8 weeks) – Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

For Teens and Adults OBSESSED With Six the Musical: Broadway Dance Masterclass
Featuring a “Queen” from the National Tour of Six!

NEW! Join us for a Masterclass with a member of the touring company of Six the Musical! This masterclass will cover the art of dance performance and includes learning a piece of choreography from the show! This class will be a hit for dancers of all skill levels. Open to dancers aged 14 years through Adult. There may be time for a Q&A with the artist.

Guest artist will be identified soon! Maximum 30 students. Will open waitlist up as observers by discretion.

When: Sunday, February 4th | 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Save the Date: Show Biz Kidz Registration!

Save those reminders: Show Biz Kidz, our popular annual summer theatre camp, begins online registration on January 3rd. These camps sell out quickly, so make sure your alarms and reminders are on! Last year, our afternoon camp sold out within 24 hours!

Info: Join us for our 26th year bringing musical theatre education to Yolo County! Show Biz Kidz is a 4 week summer camp where students of all levels get to learn musical theatre skills and techniques all while putting together a fully produced musical revue! TADA Teaching Artists assist campers in learning dance and choreography fundamentals, character development, music and voice theory, and acting skills; everything that is essential for performing onstage! Campers ages 8 to 10 years old and 11 to 17 years old attend 5 days a week for 3 hours per day. Our youngest campers, our 5 to 7 year olds (please note: 5 year olds must have completed Kindergarten) join us three days a week for an hour a day.

Registration will be live on our Summer Workshops page on January 3rd, 2024!

This annual event is always highly anticipated. Not only can you come to the Opera House for a free, relaxing evening of entertainment, but you'll also be treated to the formal announcement of our upcoming 2024-2025 season of shows! During the program we'll also draw prizes for the Big Reveal Raffle.

This year the raffle includes some really great prizes including a 65" Smart HD TV, a Veterinary package that pampers your pet and provides them with a three day stay, professional Teeth Whitening package, and much more!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the holiday, the January 2024 Board meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the third floor meeting room at the theatre as usual.
