The Lightning Thief, The Percy Jackson Musical opens next week! Follow the adventures of main character Percy Jackson (played by Sammy Rosendale, pictured), a teenager who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and embarks on a quest to find Zeus's stolen lightning bolt. This show provides so much in the way of action, suspense, and humor, you’ll love it! It also includes a variety of catchy tunes and memorable lyrics of different genres like pop, rock, and Broadway-style showtunes – there’s definitely something for everyone!

A Young Adult Performers production, our talented cast of young actors are excited to bring their characters to life on our historic stage with energy and enthusiasm. We think you’ll find their performances and the story line inspiring. It’s positive message emphasizes the importance of friendship, loyalty, and self-discovery. The show encourages audiences to be true to themselves and to embrace their unique qualities, making it a feel-good experience.

Directed and Choreographed by Erik Catalan. Music Direction by Jia-Min Rosendale. Tickets are on sale now for performances on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays/Sundays at 2:00 p.m. for two weekends (through June 25). We’re proud to partner once again with Woodland Public Library. This time, to bring you a special “sneak peek” of The Lightning Thief, The Percy Jackson Musical! Join the library and some of our actors on Saturday, June 17th at 10:00 a.m. Meet on the front lawn of the library for a short performance, then snacks and photo opportunities following.

Bring the kids and tell all your friends! This is a free event.

AUDITIONS

Special Virtual Auditions for
School of Rock the Musical
Actor/Instrumentalists Only
Deadline is Fast Approaching - June 15

Virtual audition submissions for our Fall 2023 production of School of Rock the Musical will be accepted through Thursday, June 15, 2023.

This audition is for specific roles only - actor/instrumentalists. All other roles will audition August 27th and August 28th, with more details to be announced soon.

- The virtual audition requires the submission of a short video. Specifications can be found at the button below.

- All roles are available. We will cast all students older to play younger due to the demands of the show.

- All young performers must currently be studying with a private music coach/teacher from the time of submission and through the duration of the show. We will be communicating regularly to ensure musical progress.

- We promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in our casting.

This show is based on the hit 2003 Jack Black film, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Julian Fellowes.

Important Update:

We had a mandatory parent meeting on June 1st. This meeting went over what to expect at auditions, what to expect from the initial rehearsal and performance process, and all of the necessary information regarding the additional commitment of the Junior Theatre Festival. Parents must have either attended this meeting or arranged for a presentation packet to be sent to them prior to their child auditioning for the show. If you missed this meeting, please email us HERE to request a presentation packet so that your child can audition for the show.  

This Rising Stars/JTF Audition is open to anyone between the ages of 11 years old through Rising High School Senior (Must be 11 years of age by the date of the audition and no older than 18 years old through February 2024).

Angela Baltezore
Saturday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Please join us at the theatre as we gather to honor Angela Baltezore on the occasion of her June 30th retirement. We are so grateful for Angela's 20+ years of service to the WOH as Executive Director, and prior to that, Education Program Director.

Let's fill the house with Angela's friends and colleagues, and celebrate with her! She's made an enormous contribution to the Theatre Arts community of Yolo County.

Summer Workshops

We still have enrollment openings in the following workshops!

For Beginning Ballet Dancers: 

NEW - Beginning Ballet: Ages 8+ - This is a 2-day a week quick immersion into the world of ballet and beginning ballet technique. The focus will be on barre work, with some center and across the floor exercises. This workshop meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m. Runs from June 26th through July 13th.

Tuition: $80. Ms. Anna **This workshop will be held at our 4th Street Rehearsal Studio, 415 4th Street at Main. 

For Levels 2 and up:

Summer Ballet Intensive: This is a two-week, four day a week ballet intensive for our dancers that are looking to keep their physical strength up through the summer. Runs Monday through Thursday 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. June 19th through 29th.

Tuition: $150. Ms. Crystal

Peter and the Wolf and Nutcracker Summer Session: This is a combined intensive for those interested in performing in this selection for our Peter and the Wolf/Nutcracker Sweet holiday production. Must be in levels 2 or above. The workshop runs July 10th through August 3rd, Monday through Friday 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tuition: $200.  Ms. Ania/Ms. Crystal

Summer Fitness at TADA

Latin Cardio (Ages 14 through Adult)

Come join us for a workout that feels more like a party! The hour will consist of a series of easy-to-follow dance moves set to contagious Latin beats. Utilizing a combination of high and low energy routines you can customize your experience with high or low impact to suit your abilities. With a focus on cardiovascular exercise this class will keep your heart pumping and your toes tapping.

Join in the fun! - Workshop runs 5 weeks. Taught by Irma Weldon.

Tuition: $125

Ages: 14 through Adult

When: June 17th through July 15th – Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m.

Where: Theatre and Dance Annex (TADA), 520 Court Street

Scholarship Available - Deadline June 23

The Woodland Opera House Education Program is offering a $500 scholarship for a 2023 graduating high school senior who has benefited from our Education Program and/or has participated in WOH productions. The applicant must be enrolled in a College or Arts Education Program in the Fall of 2023 and intends to focus on Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, Communications).

Applicants should submit an essay describing future educational plans, what they gained from their experiences at the Woodland Opera House, and how that has prepared them for the future. Essay submissions due by Friday, June 23rd. Email all submissions to [email protected] 

The scholarship will be awarded at the Show Biz Kidz “Broadway, Here I Come!” performance on July 21st. Please share this information with any student you know that may qualify. And good luck to all applicants!
