About Alliance Bible Fellowship

History of Alliance

During the spring of 1978, a few believers in Boone had a strong conviction that they needed a Christ-centered study of the Bible. Soon there was a meeting in the Home Economics building at Appalachian State University with about a dozen people in attendance. They decided to start meeting for Bible study one evening a week at the local Holiday Inn.

By the end of the summer, the group had grown to more than two dozen people. Increasingly, the conviction grew that God was leading them to form a new church in the area. Another meeting was held, and it was agreed that part of the old bus station on Rivers Street, which would accommodate about fifty people, would be rented. The first Sunday worship service was held in September 1978 with approximately twenty people in attendance. The church was officially organized in January 1979.

Alliance Bible Fellowship was founded to give glory to God through: 1) a vibrant commitment to the teaching of the Word of God and, 2) a vital witness of Christ to the ASU campus, our community, and the world. Our purpose has not changed: we still want to bring glory to God by our commitment to the Word, Worship, Witness, and the World.
