About Us:
Aquebogue Elementary School is one of four K-4 elementary schools in the district. The Aquebogue School is one of four elementary (K-4) buildings in the Riverhead Central School District. It is a child-centered school that now serves approximately 450 students. While the original building is old (the cornerstone reads 1929), it has been well-maintained. Warm wooden floors, new windows, and fresh paint insure that the building continues to be a bright, inviting place for children to learn. Thanks to the support of the community, our building addition has enabled us to meet the needs of our ever-growing student population.

A dedicated, experienced staff maintains high expectations for all students. A caring community represented by the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), the Site Based Management Team (SBMT), and numerous other volunteers play an active role in the success of our school. Our students perform well on a variety of formal and informal assessments, and our school has been regularly recognized as a Suffolk County Reading Council Honor School.

Aquebogue students benefit from a well-rounded K-4 elementary program. Teachers work diligently to carefully blend the best practices of teacher-directed and student-centered instruction in their classrooms. During the past several years, our staff has participated in an intensive curriculum review.

Our reading specialists coordinate the reading program and our remedial reading services. Pre-first, special education and resource room, and ESL classes are also available to meet the needs of Aquebogue's students. Our nurse, speech therapist, part-time psychologist, social worker, and occupational and physical therapists provide additional support for our students.

Aquebogue students enjoy a variety of cultural experiences to help insure that they receive a well-rounded education. Students attend art, music, physical education, computer lab, and library classes weekly. The District co-sponsors the Cultural Arts-in-Education program together with the Aquebogue PTO. A rich variety of authors, artists and performers have presented their work to our students through this program. In addition, our students have attended field trips to destinations such as New York's American Museum of Natural History, the Statue of Liberty Circle Line, as well as, various local cultural sites and outdoor education venues.

Aquebogue students have access to the latest instructional technology. There are computers in every classroom, multi-media materials, a state of the art computer network with Internet access, and a lab available to enhance instruction while providing a firm foundation in computer literacy for our students.

Events such as the Craft Fair, Winter Wonderland, seasonal concerts, Book Fair, and Field Day have been activities that have brought the entire school community together. Over the years, our PTO has installed a wonderful playground for our students, provided materials for classrooms, and placed additional technology for our students in the classrooms. See the District calendar for the dates and times of PTO meetings. All parents and guardians are welcome.
