About Us:

Under the artistic direction of Timothy Muffitt, BRSO remains dedicated to its mission to share the world’s greatest repertoire with the greater Baton Rouge region. In the past 69 years, BRSO has brought to Baton Rouge such legendary performers as Mischa Elman, Amparo Iturbi, Itzhak Perlman, Kiri Te Kanawa, Yo-Yo Ma, Van Kliburn, and Renée Fleming. Its current season, “Windows to the World,” carries on in that great tradition with 6 Masterworks performances, 5 Lamar Family Chamber performances and 5 Family Pops! performances – featuring some of the world’s most eye-opening repertoire and breathtaking guest artists – Sharon Isbin, Branford Marsalis, Paul Groves and Dianne Reeves to name a few.

BRSO, being the oldest arts institution in the state and largest in capitol, has taken its leadership role to heart by extending its gifts beyond the stage into schools, hospitals, and libraries. Breaking down barriers preventing community members from accessing the riches of orchestral music, BRSO makes impactful contributions through programs which serve underserved youth (Musical Gateways Passports, Symphony Street), children with communications disorders, children/adults who have never experienced the wonders of classical music (Young Peoples Discovery Series, Symphony 101) and gifted young musicians (Louisiana Youth Orchestras).
