Bayou City Book Festival

About Us:

The Bayou City Book Festival presented by Lone Star College held it inaugural festival on April 8-9, 2016 under the name of the Lone Star Book Festival. The festival was a rousing success with over 150 authors converging on the Lone Star College-Kingwood campus and over 2,000 readers coming to hear them. In 2017, we renamed the festival the Bayou City Book Festival. We wish to establish the festival as a Houston-wide event and we feel that our new name better reflects this goal.

The idea for the festival itself originated when faculty at Lone Star College endeavored to create a community of readers within the City of Houston. As the fourth largest city in the United States, Houston is home to exceptional amenities such as art and music festivals, ballet, theatre, opera, and museums. One notable exception to this list is a diverse, multi-genre celebration of books. The Bayou City Book Festival fills that need by brining nationally and internationally known authors to Houston. Authors speak on behalf of their ideas, meet with attendees, and sign copies of their works. In addition to this, BCBF also works with community members, non-profits, local libraries, and business to develop free programming for child and adults in order to promote the importance of reading for all ages.
