About Us:

Bear Flag Farm is our home and our passion. The farm has thirty precious acres of lavender fields, fruit trees, vegetable crops and a fantastic vineyard which yields just three hundred cases of estate grown Syrah each year. In addition to our wine, we produce olive oil, fruit preserves, herbal teas and other culinary delights enjoyed by those who seek out small batch artisan products for their own kitchens.

We include essential oil distillation in our cadre of production on the farm.  We gently steam distill our own essential oils from the flowers and herbs grown right here at Bear Flag Farm such as lavender, sage, rosemary and garden roses.  Our particular small batch process slowly coaxes the most wonderful essence of oil from each of the hand harvested and farm grown petals and leaves we choose to distill.  These wonderful essential oils find a new life in many of our small production culinary and bath & body products.

We work hard to maintain a farm that enhances the environment, creates a good life for those who work here, and we're delighted to be able to share the abundance of Bear Flag Farm with others. Every product we produce is a reflection of our commitment to these values.

Our journey so far has been filled with learning, laughter, new friendships, but mostly importantly... gratitude. We feel fortunate to be stewards of this beautiful farm and equally honored to have the opportunity to share this special place with you.

Mission:

We began farming in 2003 with no traditional farming background. Our goal was to re-imagine how a farm, our farm, could contribute in a world where massive farming operations were already bringing wonderful produce to market - both organic and conventional.

Our course was charted toward the intimate. Our initial steps were in providing exquisite sustainably grown produce to small restaurants, grateful chefs, and boutique caterers throughout northern California. We were proud to see Bear Flag Farm's produce on menus and in the veggie sections of local markets, but the reach of our farm was still limited. A friend, with immense vision, suggested we invite people to Bear Flag Farm for private events. By doing so, this would create a self sustaining model to allow time for our newly planted vineyards and orchards to mature to their full potential. This was the spark that ignited our passion to create true field-to-table experiences for those who would not otherwise be exposed to farming in such a magnificent setting. It would also become the perfect platform for meeting visitors from all over the world that were destined to be our future customers for the products we produce.  We have been very fortunate to make such a personal connection with so many people simply by opening our doors and sharing our vision.

Small farms are becoming a scarcity in this world of large scale production and super farms.  By offering a limited number of private events, we endeavor to do our part to educate a few thousand people each year about the important role of the small farm in the landscape of our country. The small family farm offers a unique opportunity to have a direct and personal relationship with those that produce some of what sustains you - whether it be food, wine or simply products to enhance your life.  It is our wish to inspire those who will then champion the need to support small farms all over the United States.  Through this symbiotic relationship, we make new friends, share the bounty of what we grow and produce and have the honor of becoming a part of the history and, quite often the future, of each person who passes through our gates.
