Bedford Pooka

History

The idea for this special weekend sprang from an arts dialogue in 2009, with community members who wished to develop a “brand” unique to Bedford that would easily identify this event. They chose to honor Bedford artist Richard Sedlon and selected his Pooka creation as a historically relevant figure.

What is a Pooka? Our Bedford Pooka, a Sedlon creation, is a gnome-like creature that loves to paint, read, sing and dance. Our Pooka owes its existence to the imagination of the Sedlon artistry. Bedford’s Celebration Of The Arts incorporates the whimsy of the Pooka as well as the outstanding talent of authors, artists, performers, and gourmands.
