About Us

The Big Bear Valley Historical Society was founded in November of 1967 by a small group of people who wished to preserve the colorful past of this high mountain valley.

A non-profit corporation was formed, and by-laws were adopted by this education society with the following objectives:

To increase the appreciation of Big Bear Valley history, preserve historical artifacts and landmarks, and to promote research in the area.

To obtain, maintain, and operate a museum in which to display historical artifacts pertaining to Big Bear Valley and the west for the benefit of all persons, interested on a not-for-profit basis.

To support and sponsor activities in Big Bear Valley which help preserve Big Bear history and traditions

On August 4, 1971, the Big Bear Valley Historical Society was incorporated as a California non-profit organization under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3).
