Our hope is that you will find the worship service nurturing to your faith and that in the future, you will make Boyds Presbyterian your church home. BPC respects each person's tradition and faith journey. You come to us not as a stranger, but as one of us seeking God's grace freely given in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

History :

In 1870, prior to the opening of the railroad, the Rev. James S. H. Henderson, who was serving the Neelsville-Darnestown Presbyterian Church, began preaching in the Ten Mile Creek Schoolhouse near Boyds Station. In the years to follow, Col. James A. Boyd and Mr. James E. Williams were instrumental in constructing the current house of worship. The sanctuary was completed in 1876 and the church was officially established on May 16, 1877 with the Rev. T. Davis Richards installed as the first pastor.

In the early 1900's the steeple with vestibule and bell were added. A community hall was built in 1923 to house Sunday school classes and church functions. The stained glass windows were installed in 1925.

The church fell on hard times during the 1930's, but the tenacity and great witness of the Rev. James P. Kerr, his wife Ruth Kerr, and other church leaders kept the church going. Reverend Kerr served the church for 31 years. Such strong discipleship brought the church into the 50's and 60's with a bright future. The church has a history of being sensitive to the growing needs of the community.

In 1978, the sanctuary was rejuvenated preserving the fine architecture and beauty of the period. The interior is simple in design, but dignified in expressing the Reformed Tradition of the Faith

In the fall of 1991, we dedicated the restored Sunday School building and renamed it Pollock-Williams Hall. This multi-purpose facility provides space for Sunday's fellowship hour, church offices, and Boyds Federal Credit Union. The sanctuary and Pollock-Williams Hall are connected by a covered walkway and made accessible by ramps.
