History:

The Brandywine Country Club, located in historic Brandywine Valley, was founded September 10, 1945.  Its beginnings were the shared idea of a number of prominent area businessmen.  Meeting regularly in a downtown Wilmington storefront, these founding members discussed a common concern-there increasing need for a quality golf course.  The obvious solution quickly became a unanimous decision to form their own club and build a new golf course. Drawing on the support of friends and well wishers, the planners purchased land and a three-bedroom farmhouse on Route 202.  The land was originally a 160-acre farm owned by William Luke, owner of the Oldsmobile agency in Wilmington.  In June, 1946, Arthur Tull, who had designed the Dupont Country Club course, was selected to design the new Brandywine Country Club golf course.  The total cost of the entire project, including renovating the main building of the farmhouse, was $232,000.  Within two years, construction and renovations were completed on the long-awaited golf course and club house. In 1985, the old clubhouse and land adjacent to Route 202 was sold and a new clubhouse was built on Shipley Road.  Ault, and Clark & Associated redesigned portions of the golf course to accommodate the new clubhouse.  In July 2005, Brandywine closed its course for a complete renovation, which included rebuilding all greens and green surrounds, tees and bunkers.  All fairways were stripped of grass, and then completely re-seeded with state-of-the-art bent grass.  Landscapes Unlimited was awarded the construction project and Brian Ault led the design team. For sixty-five years, the Brandywine Country Club has enjoyed an outstanding reputation for its first-rate golf course and inviting atmosphere.  Today that tradition of excellence and hospitality continues.  With the re-opening of the spectacular new golf course, our First-Rate Award Winning Championship 18 Hole Course, 4 Har-tru Tennis Courts, Swim Club, Dining and Catering Options make us one of the premier clubs in the Delaware Valley.
