The mission of the Branford Land Trust is to preserve open space in Branford and to promote our community's appreciation of Branford's diverse natural features.

The Branford Land Trust is a non-profit organization, founded in 1967 with the goal of protecting Branford's natural resources. For more than 30 years, the Trust has honored its mission by acquiring and managing open space, promoting education about our natural resources, and encouraging our community to get involved.

The Trust now owns nearly 775 acres in over 94 parcels in Branford which is located in Connecticut, on the shore of Long Island Sound, just east of New Haven. It has worked for the acquisition of several large publicly-owned tracts, including its most recent effort the Short Beach Preserve, a 40-acre parcel of land with rugged rock outcroppings, tall oaks, beeches, groves of mountain laurel, wetlands and a magnificent bluff offering spectacular views of Talmadge Pond and Long Island Sound.

In 2002, the Land Trust was awarded the Branford Chamber of Commerce Community Advancement Award which "recognizes the sustained efforts of an individual organization or company for their efforts towards helping to make Branford a better place to work and live."

The Land Trust is run by volunteers and supported by over 900 members. If you are interested in joining our efforts, please contact us. In the meantime, we invite you to browse our site - there's plenty to protect, learn and explore!
