We strive to evangelize the Community, gather the Crowd for worship, fellowship in the Congregation, disciple the Committed, and equip the Core for ministry and mission.
The Purpose-Driven Church and the Purpose-Driven Life are based on the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
The Great Commandment was given by Jesus in response to a question about the most important commandment in Scripture. He responded by saying: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. In some of his last words to his disciples, Jesus gave the Great Commission to them and assigned them three more tasks: Go make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey everything he had taught.
The Great Commandment - “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.”
- Matthew 22:37-40
The Great Commission - “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
- Matthew 28:19-20
Together, these passages summarize the mission of the Purpose-Driven Church:
- Love the Lord with all your heart (WORSHIP)
- Love your neighbor as yourself (MINISTRY)
- Go and make disciples (EVANGELISM)
- Baptizing them (FELLOWSHIP)
- Teaching them to obey (DISCIPLESHIP)
The purpose of our church can be summarized in a single sentence based on the two key scriptures above: “We believe a great committment to the great commandment and the great comission will grow a great church and a great Christian!”
Therefore, we have adopted the Purpose Driven Model as our process to move our community members to the NEXT STEP. To help facilitate this process we have 5 Purpose Driven Leaders that direct each step. A purpose driven church has at least one program for fulfilling each of the five purposes (reach, connect, grow, discover, and honor) and each of the corresponding constituencies.
REACH = Evangelism
To create a church culture where to REACH and invite others to church and share my faith with others is a way of life.
CONNECT = Fellowship
To encourage the “crowd” to CONNECT with other Christians in our church through personal relationships, small group participation, and special events/activities.
GROW = Discipleship
We exist to DISCIPLE members of the Congregation, who are actively involved in Fellowship, so they may grow in their faith by developing spiritual habits that honor God.
Our strategy for developing the congregation is based on the belief that Spiritual Growth begins with a commitment, is a gradual process, involves developing habits, is measured by five factors, is stimulated by relationships, and requires participation in all five purposes of the church. Those five purposes are Reach, Connect, Grow, Discover, and Honor.
DISCOVER = Ministry
One of the primary reasons we exist is for us to DISCOVER God’s purpose for our lives and fulfill it by doing ministry. Ministry is using whatever God has given us to serve Him and to meet the needs of others by demonstrating God’s love in practical ways. The Bible tells us to do something with our faith: “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.” - James 2:17-18
At Brea Baptist Church, we have various ministries to support the needs of the church, the needs of the congregation and the community. Discover how GOD has created your S.H.A.P.E. for ministry and start serving today.
HONOR = Worship
Gary Drabek and Ryan Drabek
At Brea Baptist we believe that the purpose of WORSHIP is to “Celebrate His Presence”. We define worship as expressing our love to God. We worship Him because of His great love that has been shown to us. In the Great Commandment “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” -Matthew 22:37 (KJV)
Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; with deepest awe I will worship at your Temple.” - Psalm 5:7 (NLT)
Give honor to the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” - Psalm 29:2 (NLT)
One of our desires here at Brea Baptist is for our community to see that worship is not an “event” that happens once or twice during the week at church or small groups, but that we can experience whole-life worship throughout the week. Worship is to be in all aspects of our lives. Whether our worship is singing, teaching, praying, showing kindness, or obeying God’s command, we are to express our love to God.
