Bridgewater Garden Club

10 Wally Krueger Way
508-697-7617

The Bridgewater Garden Club was organized in 1929 by a group of local ladies.  There are two divisions. Daytime meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 1 P.M. and Evening meets on the 4th Monday of the month at 7 P.M.  Both groups meet at the Cole & Yeaton Senior Center.  Each group has their own speaker but members may attend either or both meetings.  The club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of MA and the Southeastern District. There are over 80 members.

The Garden Club has members who have just started to garden, master gardeners, Landscape Design Council certified and others who have had their hands in the soil for years. Everyone teaches and learns from everyone else. Flower arranging is also a highlight and members compete in standard flower shows.

There are bird specialists who present a short presentation at each meeting as do members on horticulture and the environment.

A program is offered at a local nursing home once a month on garden related topics and attended on average by 35 residents.

In December, workshops are offered for elementary school students to learn about evergreens and hollies and then to design their own greens centerpiece to take home. An average of 50 children participate.

Each year two $1500 scholarships are presented to students in local high schools/colleges planning careers in environmental sciences.

Each May a plant sale is held. In December a greens sale is planned and on alternating years a house tour is enjoyed.
