About

In 1902, the birth of a small community, Brookesmith, was founded by David Smith. This somewhat prospering town was the inspiration for the school that later developed. However, the Brookesmith school that we now know, came from the consolidation of many other surrounding small schools. In 1929, Brookesmith consisted of these schools: Barber, Salt Branch, Rice, and Dulin for a four year school. A new building was built in Brookesmith in 1930 and the high school moved into it.

Winchell and Indian Creek consolidated with the Brookesmith School District to complete the merge of the Brookesmith School. The elementary grades occupied the old building for a number of years after that time. The last to consolidate with Brookesmith were Cedar Point on December 13, 1930, then Winchell and Indian Creek in 1949.
