Brookline Branch Library

708 Brookline Boulevard

About Us:
Located at 708 Brookline Blvd., the Library has been serving area residents, students and business people since 1930. The Brookline location is the second in the city-based public library system to have undergone massive renovations as part of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's first-ever Capital Improvement Program. The $2.9 million renovations began in May of 2003 after two years of planning with the community about important features and services. The Grand Re-Opening took place on February 7, 2004, attracting more than 1,800 visitors on that day alone. The front gallery of the library includes comfortable chairs and couches where people are welcome to relax and enjoy selections from the library's 38,000 items. The space includes a Best Sellers collection, new and featured items, popular magazines, books on CD and cassette, as well as DVDs and videos. Customers can cut time spent waiting in line by using one of the Library's two self-checkout machines. Nearby is an extensive, up-to-date Consumer Health Collection, along with the Friends' ongoing book sale.

Also on the first floor, the Library has a dedicated Teen Section, filled with the latest books and magazines for young adults plus tables for studying. Next to one of the nearby computer banks is the library's beautiful "light wall." Shaped and angled to reflect natural light from a rooftop skylight down and into both floors of the library, this wall provides cost-free and environmentally-friendly illumination. Skylights, bay windows, the use of recycled materials as well as other 'green building' features make CLP - Brookline a friend to the environment as well as the community. One the lower level and easily accessible by elevator, the Children's Department is full of books for parents to read to their children or for young readers to tackle on their own. Many of our young customers also enjoy the train set and colorful, oversized floor pillows. The library's two comfortable meeting rooms (which can be arranged to accommodate 12 - 50 people) are used for community meetings, book discussion, teen movies, children's storytimes and special activities. Customers can reserve these rooms by speaking with the staff.
