About

BCC was founded in 1870 as part of what became known as the "Restoration Movement." The Restoration Movement was the result of several Christians who wanted to leave behind the denominational differences that separate believers. Their desire was the restoration of the church to the New Testament principles on which it was founded. In time, churches in the Restoration Movement became known either as either Christian Churches or Churches of Christ.

Today, there are three branches of the Restoration Movement. The Disciples of Christ is headquartered in Indianapolis and is organized as a denomination. The churches of Christ, are independent, more traditional, and prefer a capella music. BCC is part of the third branch, the Independent Christian Churches.

There are several distinctives of our branch of the Restoration Movement.

We have no creed or book of discipline - the Bible is our only guide for faith and practice.

We have no denominational structure, no headquarters, no conference superintendents or bishops. Each church is governed locally by a group of elders.

We pay no apportionment to any national governing body. Offerings given to BCC are distributed by the church elders to help pay for BCC's ministry, and for the direct support of missionaries here and abroad.

In matters of Bible doctrine, we follow the Bible. Where the Bible allows for flexibility in belief and practice, so do we. Where our opinions differ, we practice graciousness and love.
