C. E. Budd School

210 East Main Street
419-994-3327

The C. E. Budd School was constructed in 1924 as a new high school facility. The first day of classes in the new building was September 14, 1925. One hundred seventy-three students were enrolled. The first class to graduate from this building was the class of 1926.

At the time of its construction our C. E. Budd building contained all the modern facilities -- a gym complete with a stage, showers and locker rooms, chemistry and physics laboratories, commercial, agricultural, and homemaking departments. In 1938, this auditorium, our cafeteria, music room, industrial arts, farm shop, and additional classrooms were added.

During the 1949-1950 school year, due to overcrowded conditions at the grade school, which was located on our playground, the third grade classrooms were moved from that facility into our first floor classrooms of the Budd Building. This building then housed grades 3 and grades 7- 12.

On January 6, 1964 grades 9-12 were transferred from this building to the present day high school on Campus Avenue. On January 7, 1964 grades 5 & 6 moved into Budd from McMullen. Budd School then housed grades 5-8 and came to be known as C. E. Budd School.

Our red and white C. E. Budd School sign appeared on the front of the building in 1970. It was designed and made by our Jr. High boys in their industrial arts class.

In 1980, approximately a 30 to 40 square foot area of our auditorium ceiling collapsed due to water related problems. This necessitated the replacement of the entire ceiling in this auditorium. Thankfully, no one was in here at the time of this incident.

The old white windows were replaced with our energy efficient windows during the 1984-85 school year. A new roof was also installed in 1984.

With the reorganization of our school system in 1988, another change took place at C. E. Budd. Grades 7 and 8 were transferred from our building to Perrysville and the fourth grade classrooms were moved from McMullen into Budd.
