Christ The Light Of The World Parish

32 South First Street
412-469-0196

Christ the Light of the World Parish was founded on February 13, 1994 as part of a bold project of Reorganization and Revitalization of all the churches in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This especially affected those areas where there was a loss of population and economic growth, and became increasingly vital due to the priest shortage.

Christ the Light of the World Parish was formed by combining two parishes (Holy Name on 1st Street, which was a territorial parish, and St. Hedwig on 5th Street which was a parish for people of Polish ethnicity).

Christ the Light of the World Parish is made up of six buildings - two church buildings, identified as Holy Name and St. Hedwig. You can notice the identification on the weekly mass schedule [HN] and [SH]. The rectory and office are located at the corner of 1st Street and Kennedy Avenue. The building next to Holy Name Church is our CCD Center. The former St. hedwig rectory is a residence for the Whitehall Franciscans, presently occupied by one sister.
