About:

The Absecon Historical Society purpose is to bring together those people interested in the history of Absecon New Jersey; discover and collect any materials which may help to establish or illustrate the history, culture, heritage and traditions of the City of Absecon along with its role in Atlantic County and the South Jersey area in general.  It  collects printed material, manuscript materials, museum materials, and objects illustrative of life, conditions, events, people and activities of the past and present; provide for the preservation of such material and for its accessibility, as far as may be feasible, for all who wish to examine or study it.

The Society promotes the preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and markers.The Society disseminates historical information to arouse interest in the past by publishing materials, by holding public meetings and discussion, by marking historical buildings and/or sites, by making presentations that will educate and inform the public, and by using the various forms of media to awaken public interest.The Society carries out educational activities where appropriate and that are directly related to the purposes of the Society.

The Society opened its museum “Howlett Hall” in 2005 for the dissemination and display of knowledge and material.The Society is engaged in charitable, educational, literary, scientific, and civic activities to promote its purposes to the public.Activities include providing historic exhibits at Howlett Hall for review by the public, sponsoring annual historical walking tours in Absecon; providing historic exhibits in Absecon Schools on a regular basis, sponsor educational presentations at diner meetings and maintaining an American History Reference Library in Howlett Hall.
