The City of Aurora is a Mayor-Council form of government, and a chartered municipality. The Council functions as the legislative body of the City, and the Mayor oversees the administrative branch of the City as Chief Executive Officer. By Charter, the City Council exercises such responsibilities as adopting ordinances and resolutions governing local law, approving the City's annual budget, approving recommendations from the various boards, committees and commissions of the City, as well as addressing the concerns of their constituents.
