The City of Bel Aire is located in Sedgwick County, northeast of Wichita, offering big city conveniences with a small town atmosphere. Despite its unmatched accessibility to Wichita, it manages to preserve the small-town advantages of yesteryear: privacy, security, and a pervasive quiet that speaks of its neighborhood values. Bel Aire was originally formed as an improvement district in January 1955 and then incorporated as a city on November 26, 1980. In 1998, Bel Aire received state recognition to become a city of the second class provided for under state statutes. The City encompasses approximately 2,860 acres ideally suited for residential and commercial development.
