History:
The City of Industry incorporates an area of approximately 12.5 square miles in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County. The City is strategically located within the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is within easy commute of downtown Los Angeles, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the Los Angeles and Ontario International Airports.
The City serves as a substantial employment base for the approximately 1,800,000 persons living within the San Gabriel Valley. Total employees in the City were estimated at 80,000 in 2005, and the City itself had an estimated population of 800 according to 2005 statistics. There is a wide range of housing types and services available within a very short distance, including shopping, professional, financial, and other facilities. There are two community colleges and several State and private colleges and universities with-in a ten mile radius of the City.
Since its incorporation in 1957, the City of Industry has devoted itself primarily to the development of light manufacturing, ware-housing, and distribution facilities. It has proven that concentration of industrial activity in a centralized location with exellent access and a climate conducive to industrial development can be highly successful. At an election on June 8, 1976, the voters of the City adopted a City Charter.
