City of Lynn

History:

Nearly 350 years ago, some settlers from nearby Salem wanted to find a less crowded area with greener pastures. They bargained with the Indians for some land known as Saugus, the place where the local Indian chiefs, the Sagamores, lived. This land originally included what are now the separate towns of Swampscott, Nahant, Saugus and Lynnfield. In 1630, that land was incorporated as the Town of Saugus, one year after it was founded.

When the first official minister, Samuel Whiting, arrived from King’s Lynn, England, the new settlers were so excited that they changed the name of their community to Lynn in 1637 in honor of him.

Although mostly an agricultural community, Lynn people were skilled in making leather shoes that were used to purchase the other necessities of life. A Quaker named Ebineezer Breed persuaded other Europeans to settle in Lynn to make the town an important shoe center of the new world. Breed was also successful in convincing Congress to place a protective tariff on the shoes made in Lynn, which helped to make the town the ladies’ shoe center of the world. Lynn became a city in 1850, as her population exploded. In 1892, the Lynn-based Thomson-Houston Electric Company merged with the Edison general Electric Company to form the General Electric Company.

The worst city you can live in! City Hall is the worst of the worst! I lived in many cities before, I never had any problems but Lynn is the city of Sin - if you get a ticket ! Dont ever think that you will have fair hearing! the person who will listen to you! Does Not have any sense of humor! YOU WILL PAY YOUR TICKET!

You know, I been at the same building, at the same parking lot for 11 years, always have my parking permit in the same spot... all of a sudden because the date was "hidden" I get a ticket? I know my vehicle has been seen by this exact worker from time to time, now the nice thing, the smart thing to do would be to WARN the person.... give me a warning starting it's hidden, give me the chance to move it up a little bit so u can see the year.... nope not this worker badge 227, you are not a fair person WHATSOEVER. Have a little decency to give someone a chance, if they cannot fulfill that chance they are obligated to fix... then by all means ticket till your ur hand hurts. You Meter workers or anyone giving out these tickets are ticket happy, not everyone can afford silly tickets like the 1 I was just given. Where's ur heart, or compassion? You know you can give warnings... start doing so. If it's a simple thing like mine was, give us a warning to change it, it was a simple mistake that did not need a ticket to pay money to a city who hands out tickets just cause they can. Unfair.....

I go to city hall like 3-4 times a year and I'm always satisfied with the service I get.
