City Of Prophetstown

339 Washington Street
815-537-5598

About

Prophetstown’s name honors Wa-bo-kie-shiek, a Native American prophet who served as advisor to Sauk War chief Black Hawk in the 1800s. Half Sauk and half-Winnebago, Wabokieshiek lived in a Winnebago village on the Rock River where the community of Prophetstown stands today.

Eclipse Square Park

Located in downtown Prophetstown on land once home to the Eclipse Lawn Mower Factory, the recently restored park honors area veterans and showcases historical monuments, including an 1870s-era cannon.

Prophetstown Mainstreet

An original Illinois Main Street Community since 1993, the citizens had a vision of revitalization for their Main Street.  Prophetstown has worked hard to revitalize the main street by a façade grant, a good membership base, excellent volunteers who work with the City of Prophetstown, and the businesses to grow together and make Prophetstown a place to work, raise children, and retire
