About Us
The Clarke County Historical Association, founded in 1939, operates a museum & archives in the Coiner House at 32 East Main Street in Berryville, & owns the 18th century Burwell-Morgan Mill, the Miller's House, & the historic Tollhouse in Millwood, Virginia.

The museum & archives include a dedicated research area & thoughtfully designed permanent & special museum exhibits that tell the unique story of the county & region. There is a $5 usage fee for the archives; CCHA members & Clarke County residents are admitted free.

The museum & archive collections have grown over the years due to the generosity of county residents who wish to see their family papers, photographs, & memorabilia preserved in a climate-controlled environment & made available for historic research. We encourage anyone with historic documents, photographs, or artifacts pertaining to Clarke County history to share them with us; we can make a scan of your originals & return them to you, along with a CD of these scans.

Restoration of the great water wheel & wooden gears of the Burwell-Morgan Mill is complete. Our team of volunteer millers grind every Saturday from May through November, continuing a two-hundred year legacy of service to the county in one of the great industrial l&marks of Virginia. (The Mill is closed after Thanksgiving through the end of April). Art at the Mill is a tremendously popular & successful semi-annual event that showcases the work of more than 250 artists each spring & fall. A portion of the sales support the Association & the ongoing maintenance & operation of the Mill.
