Clearview Elementary School History

Clearview Elementary School is situated on Highway 24 between the small communities of Clear Lake and Clearwater, Minnesota. The original school was built in 1961 on 56 acres of land. Additions were built on to the school in 1971 and 1987. Our total square footage is 69, 850 square feet. As our enrollment continued to increase, 4 portable classrooms were added during the 2011-12 school year.

Clearview Elementary is a preschool through sixth grade elementary school which also has a Spanish Immersion program. Our preschool program is available for 3 and 4 year olds and consist of half-day sessions two or three times per week. Parents pay tuition for their child to attend.

Clearview Elementary offers an all-day—every-day kindergarten program to all of our students. There is no fee for this program. Our K-6 classrooms are self-contained with some departmentalization in the upper grades.

In 2007 we added a Spanish Immersion program. This program introduces Spanish to students in kindergarten. After the first month of kindergarten, all students are learning and speaking only Spanish in the classroom. This continues into first grade. In mid January, students in 2nd grade are introduced to English during language arts for a total of 30 minutes per day. In 3rd and 4th grades English instruction is approximately 45-60 minutes per day; and once a student reaches 5th and 6th grade, English instruction is approximately 60-90 minutes per day.

The building has two computer labs and is completely wired and connected to the Internet, e-mail, libraries, as well as other educational software which promotes higher level thinking skills in the science, math, and social studies programs. Our language arts program is a comprehensive program integrating phonics, comprehension strategies, writing, grammar and spelling. The mathematics program provides children with hands-on experience from number concepts to pre-algebra. Teaching specialists are provided in art, music, physical education, guidance, orchestra, band, and media/technology.

The Boys & Girls Club of St. Cloud operates an after-school daycare program for the elementary children – Clearview KIDSTOP.

Clearview Elementary has a strong, supportive Parent Teacher Association. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s learning. Clearview also receives strong support from the local communities around Clear Lake and Clearwater.
