Founded in 1848, the state's first private hospital, Columbia St. Mary's Hospital Milwaukee is a full-service hospital offering a complete range of medical, surgical and advanced clinical specialties. The hospital's Regional Burn Center is the only one of its kind in the eastern half of the state. In October 2010, Columbia St. Mary's opened its new $417 million hospital that  is a national model for safe, efficient, patient-centered healthcare.
