What we Believe

Our Mission Statement affirms that
“We will be the body of Christ in the community through worship, education, fellowship, and service."
At DUMC we endeavor to be an “equipping station” for discipleship.

We believe that God gives every person the gifts to serve.

Our task is to help you discover your gifts and to equip you to serve in ministry to Christ.

In the United Methodist tradition we believe that there are many ways to follow Christ.

We do not ask for compliance to a certain way. God honors the individual spiritual journey which is shaped not by wishes and desires but by scripture, reason, experience, and tradition.

We believe in asking questions of life and faith as we seek answers together.

We welcome you to live with and ask questions, as we remain open to the answers.

We believe that the “umbrella” that we all stand under is the umbrella of the love of Christ.

Many different kinds of people stand under this large, multi-colored umbrella. We will not agree with each other about faith, doctrine, politics, or life issues. What holds us together are not our feelings or thoughts but the need for the love of Christ.

Worship allows us to meet God anew. Educational opportunities equips us so that our minds might be continually growing in faith. Fellowship is a means to share the reality that we are not individuals but pilgrims with stories to tell and share. Service gives us avenues of making love real.

Christ ask us to be his hands and feet. Our inward spiritual journey must translate into an outward journey of love and service.
