Downtown Danville Association

Who Are We
The Downtown Danville Association (DDA) was formed in 1999 to coordinate efforts to revitalize Downtown Danville. The Organization is headed by a full time Executive Director, and is comprised of a Board of Directors including representatives from Downtown merchants, the City of Danville, Downtown property owners, banks, the Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce and the Danville Historical Society.

Danville was designated as a "Virginia Main Street" Community in 2000, joining 16 other communities including Lynchburg, Manassas and Staunton, all of whom benefit from State and National assistance provided by the Main Street Program. The program is 20 years old and recognized as the most successful formula for downtown revitalization.

What We Do
The DDA directs the Main Street Program and coordinates the public/private partnership required to restore and revitalize Downtown. We focus on economic development, physical design, organization and promotional events. We are assembling information on all aspects of downtown redevelopment, from assisting individual building owners to working with the city to make sure that its programs benefit the widest number of downtown property owners.

Why We Do It
As our City Council and City Manager have publicly stated, the economic health of the City is impacted by Downtown. A Downtown with empty buildings and blight conveys a negative image; a prosperous Downtown tells the world that the business sector can work well with the City to bring about positive change. Given time, the Downtown will reclaim its role as a vital, important and pleasant place to work, shop and have fun.
