Mission

East Cooper Meals on Wheels delivers daily nutrition to residents within our service area who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals. We also advocate on behalf of recipients whose needs exceed the scope of our programs.

East Cooper Meals on Wheels Volunteers Our mission extends beyond the poor elderly to include anyone of any age who is homebound for any length of time and/or unable to independently provide a meal.  Through self selection, however, most of our recipients are over 65 years of age and 75% of our recipients live at or below the poverty line.  East Cooper Meals on Wheels has never reverted to a waiting list.  Within 24 hours of a call for assistance, our screening team investigates and processes the need. Today, there are more than 20,000 Meals on Wheels organizations across the country and at least 50% of them have waiting lists.  As a result, approximately 100,000 people currently await home-delivered meals in the U.S.  Here in the tri-county area, we are the only one of five meal distribution organizations that does not maintain such a list, and our volunteers are committed to making sure we never have to do so.  This priority is foundational to our mission.
