The New Jersey Language Arts Literacy Curriculum Framework, a document that supports the Core Curriculum Content Standards, cites five progress indicators for language arts. These indicators are speaking, listening, writing, reading and viewing. Increased pleasure reading will improve student skill development in all five of these areas. Additionally, with all of the recent discussion of teaching our children character education and developing in them conflict resolution skills, it should be kept in mind that students who pleasure read are better at resolving conflict because literature develops empathy as students see many points of view. With the help of the author children can live vicariously through the many characters in the stories they read.

Your child has a book he/she chose from books that were donated by Bookends a local group of students who have been interested in reading since elementary school. Enjoy this book and many more with your child and remember that children like to read as long as they can read what they like.
