Vision Statement:

Elkton Presbyterian Church is a warm, caring church family celebrating God’s love, grace and guidance in ministry and mission at home, in the community and around the world.

Mission Statement:

Elkton Presbyterian Church has a strong history of being a mission-oriented congregation committed to home and world issues, needs and evangelism. We are involved in the local community, caring and sharing our gifts, time, talents, and the message of the love of Jesus Christ. Elkton Presbyterian Church strives to be a beacon of light to Elkton and the surrounding area. We pray for, serve, and financially support mission projects, disaster relief, and the needs of others on the local, national and global levels.

About Us:

Established in 1889, the stately lighted steeple of Elkton Presbyterian Church has become a landmark in every sense of the word. Often, it has served as a virtual beacon as it guided motorists back home from trips across the Blue Ridge Mountains.

It is our prayer that as the steeple is there to provide a physical light, our church can also transmit rays of hope and love and love to all those in need of spiritual guidance.

While God has abundantly blessed us with both the breathtaking beauty of the Shenandoah Valley and a lovely place of worship, we believe the greatest beauty is what takes place within the church itself as we seek to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

History:

The Presbyterian Church can trace it’s history all the way back to Martin Luther and the beginning of the Protestant Reformation in 1517. Not far behind Luther was John Calvin, a French pastor and theologian who published the Institutes of Christian Religion in 1536. The Institutes are still read and studied today in Presbyterian Seminaries and have become the basis and foundation for the Reformed Tradition (also known as Calvinism). John Knox, a Scotsman, studied with Calvin and brought Calvin’s teachings back to Scotland where the church became known as The Presbtyerian Church.

The Presbyterian Church (USA) was established in 1983 when the Presbyterian Church in the United States merged with the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. The PCUSA is the largest Presbyterian denomination with over 2 Million members, 13,000 ordained ministers in over 10,000 congregations. Our denominational offices can be found in Louisville, Kentucky.
