Ellis County Art Association

501 West Main Street
972-937-7344

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Association shall be to promote the appreciation and educational instruction of the visual arts in Ellis County.

The Fine Arts Museum of the Ellis County Art Association was formerly the First Presbyterian Church on West Main Street in Waxahachie, Texas. The church was organized on November 19, 1871. The present structure was erected in 1916 with the cornerstone being laid in 1917.

The Ellis County Art Association was organized in January of 1958 with only a few Ellis County members. Under the leadership of such people as Elizabeth O'Donnell, Venia McCartney, Ina Bess Lumpkins, and Harriet Grandstaff, the organization has grown from 22 members to a current membership of over 75.

For many years, this group of artists saved their money in hopes of getting a building of their own. Meetings were held in member's homes, and various other places, such as Texas Power and Light building. Finally, in 1979, under the leadership and guidance of our Past President, Evelyn Sivley, the group of Ellis County artists saw a dream come true. The Presbyterian churches in Waxahachie merged and this historic building was sold to the Ellis County Art Association. We are very proud of what was acquired with the effort and backing of our members and townspeople.
